SARS filing season starts on 1 July 2022 – and it’s a little shorter than last year.
Here are the dates to remember:
Last year SARS “auto-assessed” around 3 million individual taxpayers, based on input from their employers, medical aid companies, banks and RA administrators. This will continue in the coming season. If you are auto-assessed, it’s important to “Edit” or “Accept” the auto-assessment before the deadline of 24 October. Failing to do so will trigger an automated assessment from SARS, against which you cannot later appeal or object. So check the auto-assessment carefully, should you receive one!
If you’ve been working from home, be careful about claiming home office expenses. SARS is being very strict about what is allowable and rejected most claims last year – please contact us for advice.
If you are selected for a “verification audit” be aware that these can take considerably longer than the 21 days for which SARS strives.
We are here if you need any help this tax season.
